Turns Out Communist Biolabs Aren't Just for Bat Soup: Russian Plague Edition
A Soviet defector spilled the beans years ago about Russia's super-plague factories, and now everyone's pretending to be shocked.

Remember when all the bright minds in our 'intelligence community' and 'esteemed' media were absolutely *certain* Putin was a good guy, or at least a manageable one, while simultaneously screeching about anything slightly right-of-center being a Russian asset? Well, it turns out that years ago, a Soviet defector named Ken Alibek actually spilled the damn beans. He exposed a sprawling, massive biological weapons program in Russia, including the delightful pursuit of antibiotic-resistant plague. Apparently, reality was unavailable for comment at the time, or perhaps it just wasn’t wearing the right color tie for the cable news circuit.
Now, suddenly, these ‘revelations’ are resurfacing. One has to wonder, what took so long? Was it the current geopolitical climate, or perhaps the fact that the mainstream narrative finally allowed for Russia to be a tangible, rather than purely rhetorical, threat? For decades, conservatives warning about communist regimes and their dirty tricks were dismissed as paranoid Cold Warriors. Now, with a little help from Marshall Billingslea, we’re supposed to act surprised that the same folks who routinely lie about everything from their economy to their election results might also lie about cooking up super-plague in their labs. Who could have possibly seen this coming, besides anyone with a functional brain and a basic grasp of history?
The sheer theatricality of the 'renewed concerns' is almost commendable. It’s like discovering gravity exists every time someone drops a brick. Alibek blew the whistle ages ago, detailing an operation that was less 'secret' and more 'conveniently ignored.' We’re talking about a program so brazen, it sounds like something out of a bad Bond villain script, but with real, terrifying consequences. The idea that this information sat largely unaddressed, or at least un-panic-attacked over, for so long is truly baffling.
“The outrage machine required feeding, and facts were apparently out of stock until they could be properly curated for maximum political effect.”
This wasn't some whispered rumor; it was a documented confession from the inside. Yet, it gets swept under the rug until it's time for another round of 'Oh my God, Russia!' – usually when we need to distract from something else, like maybe the effectiveness of our own biodefense systems, or lack thereof. Let’s be brutally honest: totalitarian regimes, particularly those marinated in Soviet-era paranoia and ambition, don’t suddenly develop a conscience about biological warfare. They develop better ways to hide it, or, more often, just count on the West's collective short-term memory and ideological blindness. The notion that Russia would faithfully adhere to any international treaty regarding such weapons is laughably naive, frankly. They signed the Biological Weapons Convention, sure, right after they got done building bigger, better plague factories. It’s what communists do. They lie. They cheat. They steal. And sometimes, they cultivate weaponized bacteria that could wipe out half your unvaccinated population. And some of our 'friends' on the left still think these guys are just misunderstood chess players. Give me a fucking break.
Maybe the real mystery isn't Russia’s not-so-secret bioweapons program, but rather how many times we need to be told the same damn story before we finally believe that some enemies actually mean us harm, even when they’re not funding some useless online 'disinformation' campaign. Or maybe, just maybe, some 'news' is only news when it fits the preferred narrative of the day, regardless of how many lives it costs to finally catch up.
